HECA Regional Learning Review ‘Achieve women's empowerment
through food security and livelihoods programming'
November 2010 – May 2011
Overview

The new Oxfam Aim 1 strategy, launched in May 2010, commits Oxfam to promoting ‘gender justice’ across all its livelihoods work, as well as to focusing efforts to promote women’s livelihoods, resilience and leadership.
To initiate communication and discussion in HECA about the relevance and implications of Aim 1 for HECA and promote learning on how to 'achieve women's empowerment through food security and livelihoods programming,' Regional Advisers with the support from Advisers in Oxford and key focal points in countries are organising a Regional Learning Review (RLR).
This RLR, entitled‘Achieving Women’s Empowerment through Food Security and Livelihoods Programming’, consists of 4 main stages:
- Aim 1 Strategy - Communications and discussion on shifts in ways of working required by the new strategy (November 2010 - January 2011)
- Gender Justice - A Video and Elluminate sessions that focus on enhancing staff’s understanding of Oxfam's ambition to achieve gender justice, with an emphasis on livelihoods programming. This will include going back to basics about what we mean by gender justice, its relation to poverty eradication and sustainable development, and how Oxfam's work can help to deliver it. (January -March 2011) The first Elluminate session was held on Feb. 9, 2-3:30 pm Nairobi time, and the second will be on March 9 from 2-3 pm Nairobi time.
- Elluminate sessions and learning task on WEL and other approaches to promoting women’s rights in our livelihoods programming (March -April 2011)
- Face-to-face learning event (June 13th-17th 2011)
A detailed ToR and work plan will be uploaded here soon.
